Vavasour – Decanter’s Trophy Sauvignon Blanc for 2011

Vavasour – Decanter’s Trophy Sauvignon Blanc for 2011 image

Vavasour Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2010 has won Decanter’s Trophy for International Sauvignon Blanc Over £10. This is a tremendous result for a clearly wonderful wine from Vavasour. The same wine also won Winestate’s Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc in December 2010.

Vavasour Sauvignon Blanc is a true reflection of the essence of the Awatere Valley. It is concentrated and explosively fragrant. The judges expressed “Bright gooseberry fruit, with a hint of lime. Grassy but not too vegetal with herbs, nettles and a touch of mineral, too. Beautifully elegant – a perfect wine!”

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, agrees:

“Vavasour makes stunning sauvignon blanc every year but this is probably their best vintage ever. Supple, grassy wine with tomato leaf, mineral and nettle flavours, plus a fine thread of tropical fruit/passionfruit. Lovely, pure, vibrant wine with energy. Juicy acidity and a lingering finish set it apart from the crowd.”

The award is an excellent tribute to the Vavasour team’s hard work and meticulous care as well as New Zealand’s continued success on the world stage. President of Foley Family Wines New Zealand, Bruce Clugston, commented:

"It’s great to see three New Zealand wines in the 25 strong line-up of International Trophy Winners. To achieve International Trophy recognition from an original entry pool of over 12,000 wines is amazing. The Vavasour Team all feel very honoured and are extremely proud of the news”

The Vavasour range also includes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

The extended Foley Family Wines New Zealand includes Goldwater, Clifford Bay, Dashwood, Redwood Pass and The Pass.
